Wagner makes Study Abroad Top 5

Michael Tomao, memory board (vertical)Psychology major Michael Tomao of Staten Island recently stopped by our Center for Intercultural Advancement to show off the memory board of souvenirs he had collected from his Semester at Sea experience this spring. Tomao and his seagoing classmates took a Voyage Around the World, starting in San Diego and ending in London.

Tomao is one of the hundreds of Wagner students who have incorporated Study Abroad experiences into their undergraduate careers, placing the college among the Top 5 master’s degree-granting schools in the country for undergraduate Study Abroad participation! The source of that ranking is the 2015 Open Doors report, issued each year by the Institute of International Education.

Wagner College was ranked #5 for participation in Study Abroad programs on the 2013-14 nationwide list of colleges and universities that grant master’s degrees. It was the only master’s institution in the Greater New York area appearing on the list. Four doctoral institutions (NYU, Princeton, Fordham and St. John's) from the region appeared on Open Doors Top 40 ranking. All lists for the most recently reported year (2013-14) can be examined online.

Wagner’s Top 5 Study Abroad ranking is based on IIE’s calculation that, during the 2013-14 academic year, we had 381 “Undergraduate Study Abroad Students.” Then, taking that number as a percentage of the number of undergraduate degrees the college conferred during that year (448), they said that Wagner had 85.0% “Estimated Participation in Study Abroad” — placing Wagner College at Number 5 on the Top 40 list of master's schools for the 2013-14 academic year.
