Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

"December 7, 1941-a date which will live in infamy."  It's hard to believe that it has been 70 years since the attack on the US naval forces at Pearl Harbor.  I hope you took time today to remember those Americans who lost their lives on that day.  Although the tragic events of 9/11/01 are still relatively fresh in our minds compared to 1941, we should not ( and cannot) forget those who lost their lives in a similar surprise attack.

Five years ago I had the honor of visiting the USS Arizona Memorial in Hawaii.  It remains one of the most humbling, emotional, and patriotic moments of my life.   If you ever travel to Oahu, I encourage you to make the time to visit the Memorial and experience it yourself...the sense of pride and respect you will feel for our country will be overwhelming.

And, appropriately (albeit more than 75 years before Pearl Harbor), I conclude with this quote from Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address:  "...from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion."

P.S.  Flags fly at half-staff on Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, sunrise to sunset.
