The Department of Biological Sciences maintains and cultivates numerous animals for teaching and research purposes. Zebrafish (Danio rerio), fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster), and yellow fever mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti) are cultivated. Numerous other animals, including fish, turtles, crabs, horseshoe crabs, crayfish, sea urchins, starfish, leeches, jellyfish and different protozoans are maintained on a more or less continuous basis.
