FILM NIGHT: THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL

British retirees travel to India to take up residence in what they believe is a newly restored hotel. Less luxurious than its advertisements, the Marigold Hotel nevertheless slowly begins to charm in unexpected ways.  Indian refreshments will be served.

 

ASIAN PACIFIC FOOD EVENT

The event will feature various Asian Pacific treats, including a tropical fruit salad, and finger foods like dumplings and samosas.

 

NEW YORK CHINESE SCHOLAR'S GARDEN TRIP, SNUG HARBOR

Friday, May 10th, Meet at 1:30 PM in the Center for Intercultural Advancement (Union 204)

The Center will cover the cost of tickets, transportation to and from, and dinner at a restaurant after leaving the gardens. The New York Chinese Scholar’s Garden is a must see attraction that adds new dimension to our understanding of life in ancient China and serves as a unique setting for a host of multi-cultural events. It features unique rockery that resemble mountains that used to inspire the poetry and paintings of Confucian, Buddhist and Taoist monks and scholars. Visitors can explore eight pavilions, a bamboo forest path, waterfalls, a Koi-filled pond, Chinese calligraphy and a variety of Ghongshi scholar's rocks including a fifteen-foot tall formation that towers over the central courtyard.

 

34th ANNUAL ASIAN AMERICAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE FESTIVAL

Saturday, May 18, Chinatown (Manhattan)

More than 20,000 visitors are expected for an impressive line-up of performances, fun activities for children and adults alike, and savory samples of Asian cuisine.  Numerous Asian American and Pacific Islander organizations will be present to inform visitors about useful services, volunteer opportunities, and resources to get involved in the community.  Event held by the Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans in Chinatown, Manhattan.  The Center for Intercultural Advancement will offer free Metrocards to students interested in attending.
