Homecoming 2013 Meeting & Due Dates

Wednesday, September 4th: Application Packets made available online at 3:00pm

Friday, September 6th:  Applications are due by electronic submission NO LATER THAN 11:00 am! Top 5 choices on a theme are due by electronic form submission found on the main homecoming page starting at 1:00pm.

Monday, September 9th: Meeting- 9:30 pm Spiro 3.

What’s Due: Campaign motto

Friday, September 13th: Meeting 2:30pm Union 201.

What’s Due: Homecoming banner description and draft, escorts name for the pep rally only, and posters for residence halls.

Monday, September 16th: Candidates can begin campaigning at 9:00 am.

All materials must be approved before they can be used for campaigning.

Friday, September 20th: Meeting 2:30pm Union 203

Monday, September 23rd: Banner Check 8:00pm

Tuesday, September 24th: Candidate Showcase on the Oval 4:30pm -6pm

Wednesday, September 25th : Royal Court Elections (10am-7pm Union Atrium)

Thursday, September 26th : Royal Court Elections(10am-7pm Union Atrium)

Rules for Royal Court Election

A.    Eligibility Requirements

  1. A Junior or Senior student may submit an application for King or Queen.
    i.  Application packet includes:
  1. Application
  2. Current resume
  3. Two letters of recommendation.  Must be written by two members of the organization that you will be representing. One of the letters of recommendation must come from the President of the organization. The letters of recommendation must be addressed to The Homecoming Committee, and submitted to jakki.guenther@wagner.edu no later than 11:00am on Friday, September 6th.
  4. An essay why you would make an excellent Homecoming King or Queen and what Homecoming means to you.
  • The candidate must be an undergraduate student sponsored by a student organization recognized by SGA.
  • All candidates MUST have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and above.
  • All candidates must have two representatives present at each Homecoming Meeting.
  • All candidates must remain in good academic and judicial standing with a history of involvement in the Wagner College Community.
  • Each organization may only put forth one candidate per position. There may only be one king and one queen representative per organization.
  • The Homecoming Committee will ensure that all requirements are met.
  • The Homecoming Committee, whose decisions are final, will resolve any issues or disputes regarding the election.

B.    Candidate Application Requirements

  1. Candidates must submit an essay detailing why one wishes to be Homecoming King or Queen
    i.      (Why do you think that you can best represent the student body during Homecoming?  How has your experience at Wagner inspired you to run? Etc.).
    ii.       Essays should not be a list of activities, but rather how these activities have influenced the student’s life, while also focusing on their leadership qualities.
    iii.      The essay must be at least two, standard (Times New Roman Font 12), double-spaced, typed pages.
    iv.      The Homecoming Committee will determine a candidate’s eligibility and reserves the right to deduct points for any essay deemed unsatisfactory.
  2. The candidate must have two letters of recommendation in order to be eligible.
    i.      The letter should be addressed to the Homecoming Committee, c/o Jakki Guenther.
    ii.      One recommendation letter must come from the president of the organization and one letter from a member of the organization for which you are representing, and explain why, in their opinion; the candidate would make an excellent representative of the Wagner Community as King or Queen.
  3. The candidate will be responsible for providing a 50 word campaign statement along with their packet. This statement will be used during the voting process. A picture of the candidate also needs to be provided.
  4. All applications must be submitted  NO LATER THAN 11:00am on Friday September 6th.
  5. A form will be made available on the main homecoming page in which the top 5 choices for a theme will be submitted. Submissions of these forms will begin on Friday, September 6th at 1:00pm. Submissions that are received before 1pm will not be accepted. Theme choices are on a first come first serve basis. Theme forms must be submitted by the candidates only. These forms must be completed by Friday, September 6th at 8:00pm. Candidates will be informed by the end of the night what their organizations theme is.

C.   Royal Court Elections

  1. Royal Court Elections will take place Wednesday, September 25th and Thursday September 26th in front of the CCP office Union 215 from 10:00am-7:00 pm.
  2. No verbal solicitation of votes, distribution of promotional material, or electioneering of any kind is permitted in the Wagner Union or the Patio on election days.  This includes wearing T-Shirts on election days.
  3. Each candidate must provide table workers for the election days.  The number of candidates will determine the number of shifts and the amount of table workers needed.
  4. Two table workers from the same candidate may not sit at the table simultaneously.  The Homecoming Committee has the right to rearrange table workers’ schedules to ensure fairness.
  5. Table workers cannot suggest, in any form, a particular candidate’s name to an undecided voter.
  6. The Homecoming Committee will oversee all election procedures and supervise all aspects of the election.
  7.  The Co-Curricular Programs staff must approve all campaign materials.
    i.      All t-shirt designs must be approved by Co-Curricular Programs 48 hours before they are ordered.
  8. There is no limit to the amount of campaign materials used.  All posters must be approved by the Office of Co-Curricular Programs and must follow the Wagner College posting policy. Posters must be submitted at the Friday September 13th meeting at 2:30pm for the posters to be displayed in the residence halls.  You may hang a sheet in the Union Dining Hall to advertise your candidate.  The sheet must be a twin sheet.  No posters can be hung on top of another candidate’s posters.  No posters are allowed in the Union Atrium/Terrace.
    1. All campaigning materials must be down by 7:30p.m. on the second day of elections, Thursday September 26th .

 D.   Actions That Can Result in Loss of Votes

  1. Not attending a Homecoming meeting
    i.      First Offense- 10 votes deducted
    ii.      Second Offense- 15 votes deducted
    iii.      Third Offense- No longer considered a candidate for Royal Court.
  2. Active campaigning on election day
    i.      Campaigning by candidate or table sitter- 20 votes deducted.
    ii.   ANYONE wearing t-shirts on election day- 20 votes deducted
  3. Having campaign materials up past 7:30pm on Thursday, September 26th .
    i.      10 votes deducted per material found
  4. Anything not approved by Homecoming Committee
    i.       Will result in a meeting with the Homecoming Committee.
    Appropriate consequences will be decided at the meeting.

 E.    Coronation at the Homecoming Game

  1. Winners will be announced during half time at the Homecoming football game.
  2. All Royal court candidates must sit in a designated section until halftime (weather permitting).
  3. All candidates must participate in halftime activities.  On Homecoming day all candidates will be escorted by another candidate. Escorts that were used at the pep rally will NOT be used on Homecoming day. A king candidate will escort a queen candidate onto the field.  After all candidates are introduced, the winners will be announced.  Please be aware that pictures will be taken following the announcement.
  4. Candidates MUST wear appropriate attire.
    i.      Men are required to wear a full suit, including jacket and tie.
    ii.      Women are required to wear formal dresses in any color EXCEPT white.

It is impossible to anticipate all infractions of the Homecoming Royal Court and Wagner College policies.  Therefore, penalties for any and all unanticipated infractions will be left solely up to the discretion of the Homecoming Advisor, the SGA President, Director of Co-Curricular Programs, and the Dean of Campus Life and Leadership
