While we tend to have the most fun outdoors, let’s face it, Mother Nature will not always be so kind to us. Days like today may force us to stay inside, but it is still possible to have fun. Here are 15 fun activities to do with your kids on a snowy day!

The Wonders of Hot Chocolate (or Cocoa)

Gather the family around the fireplace or heater and sip on a hot cup of hot chocolate (or cocoa). Times like these can be priceless.

Unleash the Inner Picasso within your Kids

Encourage your kids to take the time and get creative. Have them engage in arts and craft activities. Maybe you could start a contest around the craziest, creative, or most absurd creations.

Movie Time

Gather the family for some good movie time. Be it Netflix, Hulu Plus, or some other hosting channel, there are plenty of good family movies to watch.

It’s a rarity to get time off these days. Now is the perfect time to get into the kitchen for some baking fun. Encourage your children to come up with creative treats or put together a unique recipe. Now is the time to go through grandma’s stash of secret recipes. I’m sure she wouldn’t mind.

 

 

 

Computer Time

Stimulate your children’s mind with fun educational programs. Some examples would be PBS Kids, Learning Games for Kids, and JumpStart.

It’s Showtime!

Turn your living room into a stage and watch your kids put on a play. Provide a storyline or theme and watch them act it out.

Scavenger Hunt

Place items all over the house, in hidden sight. Items could be paper shapes, marbles, figurines, etc. It’s a fun activity that will eliminate boredom and keep the kids occupied for some time.

Reading Time

Pick out some kid-friendly books and encourage your children to read. Reading does help stimulate the mind. Then afterwards, you could perhaps, have them summarize the book in a group discussion.

Fashion Show!

Put your children in center stage and watch them walk down the runway, sporting the latest fashion. Take whatever clothing is lying around the house and have your children dress fashionably.

Make a Collage

Got pictures lying around? Have your children make a collage. It could be photos covering a specific time period or cut out pictures from magazines highlighting a particular theme.

Turn your home into a science lab. Have your children create science projects like an erupting volcano or seltzer rockets. Then judge the best project.

 

 

Get Connected with Family

Ever wanted to catch up with Grandma or Grandpa? Now is the perfect opportunity to get connected with them. Be it through Skype, Whatsapp, or Facetime; touch base with the grandparents. After all, grandparents love nothing more than saying hi to their grandkids!

Ever thought about sprucing up the house? Now is the perfect time to do. Take white sheets of paper and help your kids make paper snowflake cut outs that you could hang on the walls and from the ceiling.

Ever thought about going camping? Bring the outdoors inside! All you need is a flashlight, tent, blankets, pillows, a few good books, and of course S’mores.
