NYS Learner’s Permit
If you do not already have your permit, you are encouraged to apply for a NYS Learner’s Permit as soon as possible. Students must have their learner’s permit for 6 months prior to taking their road test. Visit DMV's website for directions and fee information.
In-Class Attendance and Grading
Students must attend 24 hours of in-class lecture. Students will take a midterm and a final during the class session. A minimum final grade of 65 and regular attendance is required to successfully pass the in-class portion.
Make-ups: Absences are not encouraged. If a student misses class he/she must speak to the instructor to coordinate make-up procedure.
In-Car Attendance and Grading
Students must complete a total of 24 hours of in-car instruction. This 24 hours is comprised of a required 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training and 18 hours of observation. Total hours driven and observed each lesson will be documented and a final grade will be determined based on the driving instructor’s assessment of the student’s ability. A minimum final grade of 65 and regular attendance is required to successfully pass the in-car portion.

- Passing grade of 65 or better for both in-class and in-car instruction.
- Required attendance hours fulfilled.
- Tuition balance paid in full to Wagner College External Programs.
MV-285 Certificates will be issued to all eligible students on the last day of class.
Note: The Wagner College Driver Education Program does not currently issue a MV-278 (5-Hour Course Completion Certificate)
Wagner College cannot schedule road tests. You will be asked to provide your MV-285 Certificate in order to schedule your road test. In addition, you must have a valid Learner’s Permit for six months prior to taking the road test. To schedule your road test go to the New York Department of Motor Vehicles website.
