Wagner College’s Education Department has a long history of preparing students to become excellent educators of youth from all backgrounds and abilities.

Our initial licensure programs are designed to provide strong curricular grounding in disciplinary subjects, deep knowledge of education content and pedagogy, and intensive field-based experiences to allow students to put their knowledge into practice. Our graduates are proud teachers and leaders in public, charter, and private schools across the tri-state area, making a difference in future lives of youth every day.

The Education Department at Wagner College offers an individualized experience to support candidates’ professional growth.

Utilizing evidence based practices, candidates are able to:

Empire State Teacher Residency Program

Wagner College has partnered with the New York State Department of Labor for the Empire State Teacher Residency Program for our July 2024 cohort, enriching teaching in NYC. This initiative offers a $30,000 annual stipend to candidates undertaking 1,000 hours of clinical experience in a year. Aspiring educators can join Wagner’s one-year graduate 7-12 Adolescent & Students with Disabilities residency education program.

  • Early Childhood and Special Education Masters of Science Birth-2nd Grade (advanced certification only)
  • Elementary Education and Special Education Grades 1-6 (initial certification)
  • Adolescent/Special Education -Grades 7-12 (initial certification)

    • Chemistry
    • English
    • French
    • Mathematics
    • Physics
    • Social Studies
    • Spanish

  • The Department offers 12 undergraduate dual majors leading to dual certification in Childhood and Special Education.

  • All of our graduate programs are one-year cohort programs.

    Current undergraduate students interested in continuing on to our Masters programs can do a 4 + 1 program.
