Study Abroad Overview

The following information is a brief overview of how you may finance your study abroad education at Wagner.  For additional information, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at finaid@wagner.edu or 718-390-3183.

For questions related to costs related to your study abroad program, please contact the Center for Intercultural Advancement and/or Bursar's Office.

Wagner-Approved Programs: IES, CIS, API, Sol Education, Almeria, St. John's Rome

  1. Apply for financial aid as if attending Wagner
    1. Complete FAFSA
    2. Complete loan applications
    3. Must meet with Office of Financial Aid and submit Study Abroad Checklist
  2. Institutional grant recipients will have their grant applied to the semester abroad.
  3. Pell Grant recipients may be eligible for a Gilman Scholarship for study abroad.

 University of Lyon II, Rothberg & Semester at Sea - pay Wagner directly

  1. Apply for financial aid as if attending Wagner
    1. Complete FAFSA
    2. Complete loan applications
  2. Need Consortium Agreement on file which enables Wagner to accept aid even though student is not in attendance here.
    1. Complete Study Abroad Checklist
    2. Expect a minimum of  1 week processing time
    3. Must be complete PRIOR to start date of Study Abroad program
  3. Financial aid funds credit student account at Wagner
  4. Institutional grant recipients will have their grant applied to the semester abroad.

Non-Wagner program – pay Study Abroad institution/organization directly

  1. Need Consortium Agreement on file which enables Wagner to accept aid even though student is not in attendance here.
    1. Complete Study Abroad Checklist
    2. Expect a minimum 1 week processing time
    3. Must be complete PRIOR to start date of Study Abroad program
  2. Apply for financial aid as if attending Wagner
    1. Complete FAFSA
    2. Complete loan applications
  3. Financial aid funds credit student account at Wagner and check is issued to student for aid amount.
  4. Institutional grant recipients will have their grant applied to the semester abroad.

Expanding Your Horizons (Winter trips)

  1. No consortium agreement necessary.
  2. Wagner will bill student in the Fall semester for the cost of the trip once the student registers for it. The student will be billed in the Spring semester for the unit. Financial aid can be used to cover each charge.
  3. Apply for financial aid as if attending Wagner
    1. Complete FAFSA
    2. Complete loan applications
