If you plan to attend Wagner for undergraduate or graduate coursework and will be in need of financial assistance for 2013-2014, your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is due by April 15, 2013.

NASFAA SUMMARY OF STUDENT AID CHANGES IN FY 2012 BUDGET BILL

According to the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA), Congress has reached a deal on the fiscal year (FY) 2012 Budget. This bill, which has been compromised and negotiated with over several months, includes changes affecting borrowers of Direct Loans, effective July 2012: • Interest subsidy during the six-month grace period is eliminated for new Stafford Loans made on or after July 1, 2012 and before July 1, 2014. The repayment period still begins 6 months after the student is no longer enrolled at least half-time, but the interest that accrues during the six months will be payable by the student rather than be subsidized by the federal government. • Changes that affect Graduate Professional Students are the loss of eligibility for Subsidized Stafford Loans as of July 1, 2012

VERIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

For the 2012-13 academic year, if you are selected for verification, you may need to request a tax transcript from the IRS instead of submitting a signed copy of a tax return. This change is due to new legislation which is requiring a tax transcript for filers who do not utilize the IRS data match import on their FAFSA.

SUBSIDIZED STAFFORD LOAN INTEREST RATE UPDATE:

On July 6, 2012, President Obama signed into law a one-year extension of the Subsidized Stafford Loan interest rate reduction . The rates will remain at 3.4% until June 2013 when they will re-set at 6.8%. Unsubsidized Stafford Loans will remain at 6.8%.
