A Blooming of a New Start

The Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving championships were held at the end of February, marking the end of a great swim season for the Wagner College Swimming and Diving team of 2013. Missing the Conference title by a meager 17.5 points, we were sorely disappointed. Nevertheless, our team had a great meet full of excitement from the very beginning of the meet until the very end. During every event, both in prelims and finals, sounds of excited shouts and cheering echoed in the pool. After every race, there were rounds of high-fives and happy shouts of congratulations to every swimmer after each race. Over seven school records were broken in both swimming and diving over the course of the four-day meet. We moved up one spot in the Conference this year, which gives us hope to work hard this upcoming season and try to get the Conference title next time.

In addition to swimming very well, Coach Colin received the Coach of the Year Award.  Freshman Amanda Lucia received two awards: Rookie of the Year and Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet! I cannot express how proud I am to be part of a team that is a second family to me. We work together as one, and we stay as one both in and out of the pool.

Now it is the start of a new season. Our team got two weeks off to relax and celebrate all of the hard work we had put in this year thus far. This week we start back up on spring training. It is mind-boggling to think about how fast time has gone by this year! There are only two months of school left until summer break is here. But before then, there will be many more papers, exams, and new exciting experiences to come (including, but not limited to, a science conference in Providence, Rhode Island, peer leading events, and Wagner's yearly Health Fair).  Keep posted, and remember to enjoy the blooming spring!
