Wagner Swimming and Diving supporting our seniors and the Cystic-Fibrosis Foundation at once!

A Non-traditional Finale

Every year, the Wagner swimming and diving team honors its seniors at the last home meet of the season. This year was different from all other years because we only had one home meet all season — and we swam against ourselves, while honoring our seniors and supporting the Great Strides Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The Nor'easter blizzard made it so that our opponents were unable to drive through all the snow to make the meet. As a result, Coach Colin decided that we would have a meet, split our team in half, and race against each other. Despite the lack of a different team, we still raced hard and had a lot of fun in the process.

On Saturday at 4:00 p.m., many friends and family members came out to support our seniors and the Cystic Fibrosis foundation. We decorated the hallway leading to the pool with balloons and streamers. Around the pool deck, purple, white, and green streamers were hung, giving the pool a very colorful and festive appearance.

Our team has raised about $300 so far, and we are hoping that others in the community will come out and support our cause! The foundation is using the donated money to fund research in finding a cure for those who have Cystic Fibrosis. Megan DiBenedetto has been a part of the Wagner swimming and diving team for the past three years. When she was nine months old, she was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disease that severely affects the person's lungs, digestive system and other internal organs. Despite her condition, Megan did not let it stop her from doing something she loves: swimming. Every day she is on the deck with us, and as a second family to her, we wanted to support her and her cause. Help our team support her today by donating here to support the fight to help find a cure!

This swim meet was a final home meet to remember. There was so much love and support from teammates, family, and friends alike, and it was an evening to remember. I will sorely miss the Class of 2013 next season, but on the flip side, I am excited for the incoming freshmen who will be coming to join our family next fall. Congratulations, Class of 2013!
