Enthusiasm Can Bring You Far: ECSC ’13

By Lynn Tay On April 24, 2013 · Leave a Comment · In Beyond NY, Lynn Tay
One thing I learned this weekend when I went to Providence College with friends, peers, and professors is that enthusiasm can bring me to unexpected places and great people. This past Saturday, I had one of the best, well-spent, and enjoyable days I have had so far here at Wagner College.  Never would I have imagined that a science conference was as exciting as it was at Providence College on April 20, 2013.  I had [...]

2nd Annual Health Fair on the Oval

By Lynn Tay On April 19, 2013 · Leave a Comment · In Lynn Tay, On campus
There is no better way to enjoy a Thursday than to have an oval day. Although it was not a typical sunny oval day, it was a lively one because of the 2nd annual Wagner College Health Fair.  I had a fun time with members of various clubs on campus who were raising awareness about health, fundraising money for good causes, and having a fun time at the different activities. As students passed by [...]

Dancing, Singing, and Cheering — both in and out of the water

By Lynn Tay On April 15, 2013 · Leave a Comment · In Lynn Tay, On campus
This weekend was a jam-packed weekend for me! I have not danced, cheered, and sang this much in two days for a very long time. I showed a lot of school spirit this week and it was a weekend I will not forget anytime soon. Saturday night I attended an event called Songfest. Songfest is a dancing and singing competition for organizations on campus who compete for the top three spots for the best performance [...]

On Thursday, April 11, 2013, twelve new members were initiated into the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society at Wagner College (also known as Tri Beta).  I was honored to be one of the twelve students who were selected to become a part of this society. Staff and faculty members from the biology department attended the ceremony, as well as friends and family members of the newly inducted members.  The current president of Tri Beta [...]

AIR — Something We Feel, but Cannot See

By Lynn Tay On April 5, 2013 · 1 Comment · In Lynn Tay, On campus
Over spring break, a Wagner swimming and diving teammate, Meredith Ketchmark, sent out an e-mail to our team to ask us to lend a helping hand to an organization dear to her heart called Attitudes in Reverse (AIR).  AIR is a non-profit organization run 100% by volunteers.  All proceeds are raised through donations and fundraisers which the organization hosts. We made a Harlem Shake Video to show our support for AIR. See the Wagner [...]

Networking with Health Professionals

By Lynn Tay On March 25, 2013 · Leave a Comment · In Lynn Tay, On campus
On Thursday, March 21, 2013, Wagner students gathered in the Faculty Dining hall to attend the 2nd annual Health Professions Networking Reception.  Pakinam Mekki, the President of the Pre-Health Society, had worked hard and coordinated the event, making all of the name tags for the students and health care professionals in attendance. The health professionals came from private practices and the Staten Island University Hospital. Wagner alumni who were currently in medical or dental schools [...]

A Blooming of a New Start

By Lynn Tay On March 20, 2013 · Leave a Comment · In Beyond NY, Lynn Tay, On campus
The Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving championships were held at the end of February, marking the end of a great swim season for the Wagner College Swimming and Diving team of 2013. Missing the Conference title by a meager 17.5 points, we were sorely disappointed. Nevertheless, our team had a great meet full of excitement from the very beginning of the meet until the very end. During every event, both in prelims and finals, sounds [...]

Unexpected Discoveries

By Lynn Tay On February 26, 2013 · Leave a Comment · In Lynn Tay, On campus
Four years ago, I would have never thought that I would be involved in a research project in which I work with bacteria and organometallic compounds. As a second-semester sophomore, I have started a project with two other undergraduate Wagner science students, Daniel Cimilluca and Sandra Minchala. Our project not only involves three undergraduate science students, but also three different science professors of unique specialties: Dr. Stepanova, the current organic chemistry professor, Dr. West, a [...]

Team Adventure in Flushing, Queens

By Lynn Tay On February 23, 2013 · Leave a Comment · In Lynn Tay, Megan Irving, Part of NYC
Last weekend, Megan and I went on an adventure to Chinatown in Flushing, Queens! We went with a friend of ours, Lynn Chen, who is an international student from China. It was a fun weekend full of food, excitement, and shopping in the largest and fastest growing ethnic Chinese enclaves outside of Asia. After about two hours of traveling from Wagner all the way to the Chinatown, our efforts were rewarded by a fabulous, relaxing [...]

Wagner Swimming and Diving supporting our seniors and the Cystic-Fibrosis Foundation at once!

A Non-traditional Finale

By Lynn Tay On February 19, 2013 · Leave a Comment · In Lynn Tay, On campus
Every year, the Wagner swimming and diving team honors its seniors at the last home meet of the season. This year was different from all other years because we only had one home meet all season — and we swam against ourselves, while honoring our seniors and supporting the Great Strides Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The Nor’easter blizzard made it so that our opponents were unable to drive through all the snow to make the meet. [...]
