My First White Christmas

By Lynn Tay On January 3, 2013 · Leave a Comment · In Beyond NY, Lynn Tay
For Christmas this year, my sister and I went up to Boston, Massachusetts, to spend a few days with our brother and sister-in-law.  We had our very first white Christmas!  My favorite things to do are to hang out with my family and watch movies while eating warm, hearty food, and play board games after dinner.  This Christmas I have been able to relax with my siblings and enjoy the food that my sister-in-law cooked [...]

A Meet to Remember

By Lynn Tay On December 7, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Beyond NY, Lynn Tay
The crowd is going wild.  Cheering fills the air, and all I can hear is “go, go, go” reverberating through the air of the pool.  Swimmers from all four teams line the sides of the pool, their arms flailing frantically in the air, pushing on their fellow teammates.  One lap of freestyle left to go, and all six girls are head-to-head as they approach the last fifteen yards of the race.  They touch the wall, [...]

Internships: Don’t Stress. Impress!

By Doug Donato On November 20, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Beyond NY, Doug Donato, On campus, Part of NYC
The fall semester is always a time when there is one thing on many students’ minds… internships! Internships are great because as students, we can get a lot out of them and they offer us great experience and credentials for our resumes and can even lead to jobs. Companies also love internships, because let’s face it, who doesn’t like free labor? Wagner is a school that makes it easy to find internships because of its [...]

A Unified Community During the Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy

By Lynn Tay On November 4, 2012 · 1 Comment · In Beyond NY, Lynn Tay, Part of NYC
Last year was the first time I ever had to worry about a hurricane.  I survived Hurricane Irene, and the damage done by the hurricane was minimal.  This year, with Hurricane Sandy, I had a very different experience.  I was fortunate enough to be taken in by Kristiana, a swim teammate of mine.  At the last moment’s notice, she and her family were more than happy to take me in.  They provided me with a [...]

A Loss Full of Gains and Optimism

By Lynn Tay On October 23, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Beyond NY, Lynn Tay
There is no better feeling than seeing your teammates sweep a swimming event or break a pool record at a rival team’s pool. Although the Wagner swimming team (the divers were at Central Connecticut State University this weekend for their diving meet) had another loss at 151-111, we have seen some great times and races so far this season. With only a two-day rest after five long weeks of training at 6:30 a.m. every day, [...]

Leaf Peeping in New England

By Lynn Tay On October 16, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Beyond NY, Lynn Tay
I have traveled far and wide because of my swimming competitions in high school. Here at Wagner, I have added new destinations to my list of “states I have been to.” For our second meet of the season, the Wagner swimming and diving team took a luxurious coach bus to University of Vermont (UVM) in Burlington, Vermont. This was my first time being so close to Canada. Our bus ride on Friday was seven and [...]

An Exciting Fall Break

By Lynn Tay On October 12, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Beyond NY, Lynn Tay
This fall break was a very eventful one compared to last year. I had my first swim meet of the season, then went to visit my younger sister in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Our first meet of the season was full of spirit and close races. Although we lost the meet, we were able to see how much stronger we have become as swimmers and as a team. We swam against CW Post at their pool on [...]

A Helping Hand

By Lynn Tay On September 28, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Beyond NY, Lynn Tay
Many people take clean drinking water for granted.  In the South Asian country of Bangladesh, the population is faced with the problem of high arsenic levels in their water sources.   Dr. Mohammad Alauddin is a chemistry professor here at Wagner College and takes students on a short-term study abroad program during winter break to give them an opportunity to give a helping hand to the people of Bangladesh.  These short study abroad trips are offered [...]

Peru 2012

By celeste.gagnon On August 8, 2012 · 1 Comment · In Archive, Beyond NY, Research | Peru
My Peru 2012 was absolutely amazing. I am home now and realize how much I learned and experienced through my adventures. Dr. Celeste Gagnon is an amazing influence and instructor, she opened doors for enlightenment as well as opportunities for the future. The experience as a whole was one of the greatest I’ve had. I had so much fun with all my new experiences. Diversifying myself with food, culture, knowledge, were all tools that [...]

Chinese Art Painting

By Lynn Tay On August 8, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Archive, Beyond NY, Lynn Tay
In my cultural class last week, I experienced two things that I have known about but have never really gotten the chance to try.  Earlier in the week, I had the chance to try traditional Chinese painting.  During the Chinese painting class, I discovered that I am more of an abstract artist.  The first bamboo drawing that I made had too many leaves everywhere.  It also had bad placement.  By the end of the class, [...]
