Rush Week: A Break From Tradition

By Christian Grotewold On February 19, 2013 · Leave a Comment · In Christian Grotewold, On campus
Rush week is finally over and with it all of the anxiety every single Greek Life member and potential recruit had. This semester, rush was done very differently than it had been done previous semesters. For those who are not familiar with the Greek Life terms, let me explain what it all entails: Rush is a period where Greek houses recruit interested members for a chance to join the fraternity or sorority. Let’s begin with [...]

Super Bowl Sunday

By Christian Grotewold On February 7, 2013 · Leave a Comment · In Christian Grotewold, On campus
Chicken wings, Subway sandwiches, pizza, and beer. These are, from what I have noticed, the perfect ingredients for a Super Bowl Sunday. This past Sunday was the 47th annual Super Bowl between the 49ers and the Ravens, with a special performance by Beyonce and Destiny’s Child during the half time show. Past years I have spent it with my family back home, since I was still in Guatemala, but these last two years I have [...]

A Word of Academic Advice

By Christian Grotewold On February 1, 2013 · Leave a Comment · In Ask a Wag, Christian Grotewold, On campus
It has been a quiet week in Wagner’s social life, but you all have to get ready for the upcoming posts because they will be great. So, before going into the usual Christian blog posts, I would like to have my academic life known. Despite being only a sophomore at Wagner College, I do have some experiences and some advice for any incoming freshmen. It is fine if you do not know what major you [...]

The spring semester at Wagner has officially started, and so have all of the activities for it. Although the cold weather is not much help for outside recreation, you can be sure Wagner knows how to keep the students happy, and I’ll be there to cover all of the events and tell you all about them. Here is a brief overview of what’s to come: The first main event planned for the upcoming days is [...]

Holiday In Guatemala Pt. 2

By Christian Grotewold On January 24, 2013 · Leave a Comment · In Beyond NY, Christian Grotewold
Hello everyone and welcome to the second part of my Holiday in Guatemala post. Since this will be my last post before we get down to real business again, I have decided to give you a fun view of how I spent my New Year’s Eve. My entire family and I went to Antigua Guatemala to welcome the New Year. Antigua means “old” in Spanish, and, as you might have guessed, it is the old [...]

Happy new year, my fellow HawkTalkers, and I hope everyone had great holidays! I wish you all a very successful 2013. Wagner’s Amazing Performers Part 2

By Christian Grotewold On November 28, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Christian Grotewold
Having covered the student productions of plays and musical theatre on my last blog, it is time to cover the main productions at Wagner: Stage One and Main Stage productions. These two are the most professional out of all the theatre-related productions at Wagner College, since they are run by faculty members. Having professionals running the shows makes the performances enjoyable and addicting. Plays and other intimate performances are shown on Stage One. Titles include [...]

Wagner’s Amazing Performers

By Christian Grotewold On November 27, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Christian Grotewold
If you want to be blown away by amazing performances and theatre productions, then Wagner is the place to go. The productions that are put up with the theatre majors are simply mind blowing. I have loved every single one of the musicals and plays I have seen. The actors, singers, and dancers are spectacular, but of course a good show would not be able to succeed without amazing direction and stage managing. Wagner Theatre [...]

Student By Day. Movie Star By Night.

By Christian Grotewold On November 13, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Christian Grotewold, Part of NYC
Wagner College is full of opportunities, and I most certainly took major advantage of one in particular: movie castings. Wagner is a very popular place to shoot movies; perhaps the biggest one has been “School of Rock.” Being an arts-heavy college, Wagner offers great chances to all students for the movies filmed on campus, and offers castings every now and then for off-campus movies. My first experience was last year with a movie shoot on [...]

Sandy: One Coffee. One Smile.

By Christian Grotewold On November 5, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Christian Grotewold, Part of NYC
Hurricane Sandy was a real tragedy here on Staten Island. Homes were destroyed, lives were lost, and happiness was shattered. The hurricane struck the island on Monday night, destroying everything in its path. It was heartbreaking to wake up the next morning and see the disaster before our eyes, and to see the faces of the people whose homes are gone. I spent my week at a friend’s house here on Staten Island. We were [...]
