Helping Cedar Grove Beach Residents

By Lynn Tay On November 6, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Lynn Tay, Part of NYC
Sunday afternoon, upon my return back to campus, I had the means to go down with my swim coach and some swimming teammates to the destroyed area of Cedar Grove Beach on Staten Island to help out.  I did not know what to expect when I arrived, and I could not believe the ruin Hurricane Sandy left in her wake.  My coach, teammates, and I parked about a quarter of a mile away from the [...]

Sandy: One Coffee. One Smile.

By Christian Grotewold On November 5, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Christian Grotewold, Part of NYC
Hurricane Sandy was a real tragedy here on Staten Island. Homes were destroyed, lives were lost, and happiness was shattered. The hurricane struck the island on Monday night, destroying everything in its path. It was heartbreaking to wake up the next morning and see the disaster before our eyes, and to see the faces of the people whose homes are gone. I spent my week at a friend’s house here on Staten Island. We were [...]

Wagner College Weathering the Storm

By Doug Donato On November 5, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Doug Donato, On campus, Part of NYC
When I heard that Hurricane Sandy was on its way, I only expected to be home for a day or two and then return to campus and see minimal damage, similar to last year when Irene pushed us all into the Spiro Sports Center. Never did I expect to see an area so close to home hit with such force and destruction. While our campus may have survived, many homes nearby are suffering from ruin, [...]

A Unified Community During the Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy

By Lynn Tay On November 4, 2012 · 1 Comment · In Beyond NY, Lynn Tay, Part of NYC
Last year was the first time I ever had to worry about a hurricane.  I survived Hurricane Irene, and the damage done by the hurricane was minimal.  This year, with Hurricane Sandy, I had a very different experience.  I was fortunate enough to be taken in by Kristiana, a swim teammate of mine.  At the last moment’s notice, she and her family were more than happy to take me in.  They provided me with a [...]

Volunteering in the City

By Megan Irving On October 19, 2012 · 1 Comment · In Megan Irving, Part of NYC
Something I pride myself on is following the news. This may sound a bit silly; I don’t produce the news or create it. I simply follow it. I pride myself on the fact that I know what’s going on in the world. I’d recommend it to everyone and anyone. Okay dear reader, I’ll get off my high horse and get to the story. A recent headline all across the country was the Chicago Public School [...]

Travels in Harlem

By Megan Irving On October 1, 2012 · 3 Comments · In Megan Irving, Part of NYC
I have been riding public transportation since the age of 12. Aside from being a wonderful opportunity to people watch, public transportation is great for popping your ear buds in and jamming out to the soundtrack of your life. When my learning community (Hi LC 1!) and another learning community (LC 10) ventured to Harlem this week, I had a subway playlist ready to go. Our learning community focuses on immigration populations and how they [...]

A Run to Help a Ton

By Lynn Tay On October 1, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Lynn Tay, Part of NYC
More than 20,000 people gathered before the Battery Tunnel to participate in a 5K run early on Sunday morning on September 30, 2012.   Why were these people all there? For one reason: to run to help a ton.  They were all there as participants in the annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run in New York City. When we arrived in the morning, the atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm.  People from all over the [...]

Talking with “The Talk”

By christopher.defilippi On May 17, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Archive, Chris | Orientation, Part of NYC
New York City can leave behind some great memories! Yesterday, I attended a live taping of the new talk-show The Talk live from New York City! The show stars some of the funniest women on talk show television today: Julie Chen (Big Brother Host), Sharon Osborne, Sheryl Underwood (Comedian), Sara Gilbert (Big Bang Theory) and Aisha Tyler (Comedian). The show had two guest appearances: Rachel Ray (Who doesn’t know of her) and the one and [...]

Frequently Asked Questions

By bryan.grandison On April 19, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Archive, Ask a Wag, On campus, Part of NYC
Hey everyone, So I was giving a tour yesterday morning, and as I was answering the families’ questions, I thought about all of the things I wondered before I came to college and thought I’d share some of the more frequently asked questions that I get from perspective students and their parents. Are the floors in Harborview coed? Yes. Most of the floors in Harborview are coed but there are some floors that are not. [...]
