Farewell to Summer Classes

This past Friday was the last day of my six-week study abroad program here in  Singapore.  I will be staying here until the 21st of August, but I had to say goodbye to my five other classmates from America who were here with me on my journey to Singapore.  It is amazing how a place can bring a lot of different people together to have an experience of a lifetime.  Over my six-week cultural course, I had the opportunity to learn about and experience different Southeast Asian cultures.  I had the chance to try foods from these different cultures, as well as visit religious places that are associated with the different cultures.  Even though some of the field trips tired us out, at the end of the day, I always felt culturally enriched.  I feel that this cultural course helped me understand the basics of other people's cultures, so that when I go to that country some day, I will be better prepared to know how to assimilate into another culture.

It has been different being out of class for about four days.  I have been taking this time and dividing it among my relatives and friends.  I find it intriguing how I am still very busy here, even after all my classes are over.  Lately I have been doing some shopping for my parents to bring home some cooking ingredients that we cannot buy back in California.  Now I am faced with the challenge of finding a way to best bring all of these items home.  Nevertheless, I will be enjoying my last five days here in Singapore, and then I will be back home in California for three days.  It is unbelievable how fast these summer weeks have gone by!  Time really does fly when you are having fun.
