Gianna Pontercoboli, Italian-born journalist, U.N. correspondent, and author of "Americordo: The Italian Jewish Exiles in America." Forced to leave by rising persecution, 1,000 Italian Jews came to America to continue their work, from mathematics to music. Pontercoboli retraces their strategies to secure a visa, weave networks of support and confront fascism and anti-fascism in the U.S. Four of those who remained in America won the Nobel prize, while others built enduring bridges between America and Italy.
