Who may use the library?
The Horrmann Library is a private library. We are not part of the public library system. We are open only to current Wagner students, staff, and faculty. Wagner alumni may also access the library if they have a valid Wagner Alumni ID (provided by the Alumni Relations Office).
How do I access library databases from home/off-campus?
Library databases can be accessed from home or off-campus. Please see the Off-Campus Access page for details.
What are the library hours?
Library hours vary depending on the time of year. See the current library hours calendar for daily hours.
Where is the library located?
Please see the campus map and directions to Wagner College for more details.
Does the library offer proctoring services?
No. Wagner students and faculty may arrange for proctoring services at the Wagner College Center for Academic and Career Engagement [CACE]. Call CACE at 718-390-3181 or email cace@wagner.edu.
May I check out music and videos (DVDs, CDs, etc.)?
Yes! CDs and DVDs may be borrowed by current students, faculty and staff. See the library policies page for more details.
May I renew my books online?
Yes but remember, library books are checked out to you for the whole semester, so you probably won't need to renew them! Visit the library catalog, log in using your name and library barcode number, click on your name to see what you have borrowed and then select items and renew them. If you don't have a library barcode on the back of your Wagner ID card then chat with us online or email us and we'll set you up.
How may I borrow books or articles that the library does not own?
You have two choices.
1. We offer interlibrary loan and document delivery services to current students and faculty, enabling patrons to borrow books from other libraries and even get full text articles emailed to them. Please see the Interlibrary Loan page for more details.
2. Students and faculty may also come to the library to ask for a "METRO" pass, which will allow you to visit certain metropolitan New York libraries for your research. Call the library for more information, 718-390-3401.
May I print or make copies in the library?
Yes. Patrons must log in to the library computers to use the printers (every patron has a printing account). Scanning and printing are also available in color and greyscale.
How do I find books by their call number?
All books held in the library are assigned a "Call Number," which lets you know where it is shelved in the library. Library of Congress Call Numbers are made up of a combination of letters, whole numbers and decimal numbers.
PS | Letters of the Alphabet |
3525 | Whole Numbers |
.I96 | Letters and Decimal numbers |
G6 | Letters and Decimal numbers |
The third and fourth lines are usually made up of combinations of letters and decimal numbers. They place all of the PS3525 books alphabetically by author and title. The 96 of .I96 should be shelved reading the number digit by digit from left to right. Hence .I933 would be shelved before .I96. The call number PS3525.I96 G6 means the following:
PS | American Literature |
3525 | Authors in the early 20th Century whose last names begin with "M" |
.I96 | Margaret Mitchell, specifically |
G6 | Gone with the Wind |
If you have questions, please ask a librarian.
