What is InterLibrary Loan [ILL]?

Interlibrary Loan lets qualified Wagner College users get books, DVDs, CDs, and journal articles that are not available in any Horrmann Library collection.

What is Document Delivery?

Document Delivery provides qualified Wagner College users with electronic delivery of journal articles and book excerpts available in Horrmann Library’s print collections.

Who is qualified to use ILL and Document Delivery services?

We provide ILL and Document Delivery services to any user with borrowing privilege including current students, faculty, staff, and community users.

Is there any charge to use ILL or document delivery services?

ILL services are available to qualified users free of charge; we only charge users if they are overdue when returning materials, or if they lose or damage borrowed materials.

How do I use ILL?

You can access ILL services through most of our article databases when you click on the Get It Button:

GetIt

When you click on the "Get It" button and you discover that the library does not have access to a desired article, simply select the link to the ILL/Document Delivery form, log in to your account if you have one, or create an account from the log in page if you don’t. Once logged in you can submit request forms from the ILL/Document Delivery link in the article database.

You can also access ILL through the library web site. Gather information about a book, DVD, audio CD, or journal article that you would like to get. Log in to your ILL account and fill out the appropriate form from the new request list on the left hand menu.

The ILL department will notify you by email when your request is ready. Depending on the request type, materials are available for pickup at the main desk or are delivered to you through email.

How do I use document delivery?

When you find a journal article, book chapter, or any book excerpt that is available through Horrmann Library’s print journal or book collections, log in to your ILL account and fill out the appropriate request form to get that item.

We will send it to you through email, or hold it for you for pick up at the main desk depending on the nature of the requested item.

How long does it take to receive the materials I requested?

This depends on the availability of the item you need. Most articles and document deliveries will be available to you through your ILL account within 24-48 hours. Most books are delivered to the library through UPS or courier and are usually available to you within 5 to 10 business days.

Is there a limit to the number of items I can request?

No, there is currently no limit on the number of ILL requests you can submit. Please be careful not to submit duplicate requests. We only allow you one copy of any particular title at any one time.

Can I get my textbooks through ILL?

Most things can be obtained through ILL request, though there are some things that are usually not available through ILL services. These include: text books, dissertations and theses, very old or very new books or DVDs, and very rare materials available through archives or special collections. We will try our best to get whatever is requested, but do not count on being able to get these types of materials through ILL.

How long can I borrow an ILL book?

The loan period for ILL books varies and depends on the lending library’s policies. In general, the loan period for ILL books is three to six weeks.

Can I renew an ILL book?

If you would like to attempt a renewal of an ILL book log in to your ILL account and view your checked out items. Select the item you would like to renew by clicking on the transaction number. From the full record of the request you will see a renewal request button on the top of the page. Click it once and your renewal request has been submitted.

We will submit a renewal request to the lending library, and you will be notified when they respond. Renewal of ILL items is not guaranteed, and is contingent on permission from the lending library. Most ILL requests are renewable one time.

Can I cancel an ILL request?

Yes. To cancel an ILL request you must log in to your ILL account and view your outstanding requests from the left hand navigation menu. Select what you would like to cancel by clicking on the transaction number. From the full record of the request you will see a “cancel request” button on the top of the page. Click it once and your request will be cancelled.

Only those requests that can be cancelled will have this button. If you do not see the button it means the item has already been shipped and cannot be cancelled.

Can I track an ILL request?

Yes. To track an ILL request you must log in to your ILL account and view your outstanding requests from the left hand navigation menu. Select which item you would like to track by clicking on the transaction number. The last table at the bottom of the full record provides tracking information about your request.

Are there overdue fees on ILL books?

No, the library does not charge overdue fees for late ILL books, but borrowers are responsible for the replacement costs of materials deemed lost or damaged.
