Come join the Wagner College History Department and Wagner College's DaVinci Society on Monday, Nov. 14 at 1:30 p.m. in Spiro Hall 2 for a presentation by Elizabeth Bettina, author of “It Happened in Italy: Untold Stories of How the People of Italy Defied the Horrors of the Holocaust” (Thomas Nelson, 2009). Take a journey with Bettina as she discovers, much to her surprise, that her grandparents’ small village in the heart of southern Italy housed an internment camp for Jews during the Holocaust. Explore the little-known details of how members of the Catholic church assisted and helped shelter Jews in Italy during World War II. Follow her discovery of survivors and their stories of gratitude. Bettina will be joined by survivors from Italy. The Hon. Ralph Lamberti, co-chairman of the DaVinci Society and former borough president of Staten Island, will make opening remarks. The program is free, and the public is invited. For more information, email Prof. Lori Weintrob.
