Anthony Turner Faculty Recital

The Wagner College Department of Music presents faculty baritone Anthony Turner in recital on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at 7:30pm in the Music Performance Center.

The program is entitled ‘War and Repentance’ featuring the poetry of Walt Whitman set to the music of Ned Rorem, Lee Hoiby and Barbara Wesby. The program will also feature arrangements of Negro Spirituals by Hall Johnson, Louis Gruenberg and R. Nathaniel Dett. Accompanying the recital will be the fashion designs of junior visual arts major and current Wagner College basketball team member Tim Graham.

“An Exploration of Rhythm”, Jazz Orchestra Performance

Join us for a very interesting evening of music as Prof. Sher and the band explore rhythms of Africa, Brazil and India. Featuring jazz fusion compositions by Billy Cobham, John McLaughlin, Jaco Pastorious, Airto Moriera, Herbie Hancock and Jimi Hendrix.

Wagner College Choir Send-Off Concert

In preparation for a ten-day concert tour of Costa Rica, Wagner College Choir and Alumni join in a lively and varied concert celebrating the choir’s heritage, traditional and contemporary American music, and gems from many nations and cultures. The repertoire presented represents a mosaic of musical life in New York that the choir is eager to share with its audiences in Costa Rica. The program includes sacred works by Pachelbel, Virgil Thomson, Stephen Paulus, Ivo Antognini, Ola Gjeilo, Nicolai Kedrov, and Barbara Wesby, as well as American folk hyms arranged by Shawn Kirchner and Roger Wesby. Daniel Elders’ nocturne, Ballade to the Moon, Javier Busto’s charming Sagastipean, and John Lennon’s Rain are among the secular works. In addition, the program segment “Our Folk Music” includes a work by Stephen Foster, an Afro-Peruvian landó and a Costa Rican song. A Zimbabwean spiritual, and two Africa American spirituals close the program. Stretto vocal ensemble will perform two of TAKE 6’s arrangements.

Music Teachers 4 Global Peace presents: Virtual Concert for Global Peace 2018

PERSPECTIVE, composed by Michael DeVellis works to bring directors and student musicians to propel a heartfelt message of global peace and harmony through music, featuring our own Wagner College Concert Band, as well as ensembles from around the world. Join us for the world premiere, simulcast in Hong Kong and the US.
