The Grand Prize Winners 2008
Level 1 Co-Winners

Stephanie Sun, piano
Stephanie Sun is currently twelve years old and attends Tottenville Intermediate
School (IS 34) on Staten Island. She is a member of ARISTA at her school and has
one of the highest grade point averages. She plays piano, violin and flute. She
also enjoys reading and writing. Her piano study wi with Wen-Yi Lo. Since six she
has been studying piano with Sanchie Bobrow is is a member of the Mighty String
Demons. Stephanie has participated in various competitions and performances. She
won Second and Third places several times in the Wagner College Young Musicians
Competition. She has also won Third place and Honorable Mention for Violin. She
took part in the Mid-Season Musicale of the Associated Music Teachers last year
and this past August she won Second Prize in the Talent Search category of the
LISMA International Music Teachers League. She also participated in the September
11 Memorial Ceremony for the Borough President. This year she played the Brahms
Hungarian Dance No. 5 as “future musician” at the State of the Borough Address.

Jake Taylor, cello
Jake Taylor is 10 years old and is a private student of Vladimir Panteleyev at The Special
Music School of America near Lincoln Center in Manhattan. Jake has been playing cello since
the age of two and a half and has performed around Manhattan in the chamber group the
"Taluvy Trio" for the past five years. He is a soloist in the Metropolitan Children’s Chorus
where he has performed featured roles onstage in Die Zauberflaute, La Giaconda and many
others. Jake’s other interests include tennis, electric guitar, swimming, tap dancing, modern
dance,and lego engineering. Under the direction of Ellen Robbins, Jake has performed his
modern dance choreography on three occasions for the Dance Theater Workshop’s Family
Matters series. Jake is also a US certified sailor. Jake would like to thank his teacher Vladimir
Panteleyev for his continued guidance and support.
