Crain’s columnist on ‘Modern New York’
Please join President Richard Guarasci for a visit with CUNY journalism professor and Crain’s New York Business columnist Greg David. He will be talking about his new book, “Modern New York: The Life and Economics of a City.” His talk follows the high-stakes drama since the 1960s of real estate development, the growth of inequality, the role of immigration and the prospects for diversification.
"The story of New York's revival is not just the tale of one city's reinvention after its demise as a manufacturing center," said Abraham Unger, director of urban programs at Wagner College and a fourth-generation native New Yorker. "It is a precedent that set the standard for practically all industrial cities' attempt to create themselves anew as global cities. The story of New York's evolution as a post-industrial luxury city is a complicated, textured political and economic epic."
Greg David, director of the Business & Economics Reporting Program at the CUNY Journalism School, is a current weekly contributor and former editor of Crain's New York Business. During his 25-year tenure as editor, Crain’s won two Gerald W. Loeb awards for excellence in business reporting as well as general excellence awards from the Alliance of Area Business Publications and the Society of American Business Writers and Editors.
