Both the reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
The gallery is located in the Union Building on the Wagner College campus at 631 Howard Ave., Staten Island.
The Wagner College Gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours on Thursday until 9 p.m.
A newcomer to Staten Island, Johnson presents a collection of paintings that include small landscapes inspired by her acclimation to her new surroundings, still lifes of porcelain figurines that evoke childhood memories and a nostalgia for a more innocent and care-free time, and self-portraits that capture the passing of time and events that have influenced her inner state of being and her outer appearance. This body of work is the result of Johnson’s life-long infatuation with the physicality and craft of painting, tempered by her playfulness and sense of humor.
Nancy Johnson earned her MFA from Yale University School of Art, and her BA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She is the recipient of the Strathmore Award for her drawings as well as a grant from the Ford Foundation. Her work has been shown nationally in solo and group exhibitions and can be found in private collections worldwide.
