All events for Ron Cross memorial concert
On Saturday, June 1, at 2 p.m., the New York Consort of Viols will present a free concert honoring the memory of Wagner College's late music professor, Ronald Cross, at St. Paul’s–St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 186 Decker Ave., Port Richmond, Staten Island. Cross, a Wagner faculty member for over 40 years, was instrumental in introducing the viola da gamba, the Renaissance ancestor of the cello, to Staten Island.
The concert, entitled “Three Centuries of Viol Consort Music,” will feature music by some of the most famous composers of the Renaissance: Byrd, Gibbons, Josquin, Lupo, Pipelare, Purcell, Tomkins and Tye.
The New York Consort of Viols is one of the nation’s premiere early music ensembles. The Consort's members are Artistic Director Judith Davidoff, Lucy Bardo, Larry Lipnik and Lesley Retzer. For further information about the performers, visit the Consort’s website.
The concert is free and will be followed by a reception. All are invited.
