On Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Sutter Oval, please join us in celebrating National Coming Out Day. “I’m ______ and I’m Proud!”
On Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 11:30 a.m. in Union 201, please join us for a Social Justice Dialogue luncheon discussion with Melissa Albanese. A recent graduate of McGill University, Albanese has just returned from a year abroad teaching English to Cambodian girls in an orphanage and working for the Cambodian Centre for the Protection of Children's Rights to help end sex trafficking among girls. Come hear about her remarkable journey, and perhaps become inspired to make a transformative journey of your own after college.
On Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 4:20 p.m. in the Kairos House chapel, please join us for a Faculty Forum presentation by political theory professor Patricia Moynagh. Her presentation, “Beyond Just War: Joan of Arc and Fighting without Malice,” will explore her research on Joan of Arc’s military leadership and demonstrate how Joan’s behavior on the battlefield challenges standard requirements for “just war” theory. Drawing from Hannah Arendt’s insight that violence is never legitimate but may be justifiable, Moynagh argues that even when some determinate use of violence may be deemed necessary to fight against greater violence, it must be employed without demonizing the enemy. The presentation will be followed by a wine and cheese reception.
