Faculty Forum: Patricia Moynagh

October 23, 2013 @ 4:20 pm - 5:00 pm

On Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 4:20 p.m. in the Kairos House chapel, please join us for a Faculty Forum presentation by political theory professor Patricia Moynagh. Her presentation, “Beyond Just War: Joan of Arc and Fighting without Malice,” will explore her research on Joan of Arc’s military leadership and demonstrate how Joan’s behavior on the battlefield challenges standard requirements for “just war” theory. Drawing from Hannah Arendt’s insight that violence is never legitimate but may be justifiable, Moynagh argues that even when some determinate use of violence may be deemed necessary to fight against greater violence, it must be employed without demonizing the enemy. The presentation will be followed by a wine and cheese reception.
