Fourth Annual Anti-Hunger Legislative Breakfast

March 27, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Hunger on Staten Island is one of this community’s most compelling and immediate needs! The escalating needs are being made evident by the sharp increase in the number of seniors and families accessing food through our more than 30 food pantries, and the added needs of our residents affected by Hurricane Sandy.

On Friday, March 27th, 2015, at 9 a.m., the Staten Island Hunger Task Force will present our Fourth Annual Anti-Hunger Legislative Breakfast, where we will discuss the most recent issues regarding legislation and hunger. Keynote speaker, Barbara Turk, is the NYC Director of Food Policy and represents the Mayor’s Office. Nicholas Buess, Community Mobilization Manager of Food Bank NYC, will focus on ways the city can combat hunger. Taken together, these two speakers will explain the Meal Gap Methodology; the 8 million missing meals on Staten Island; and strategies to close this gap.

A light breakfast will be served, after which we will hear from our speakers, our legislative offices, and other City-wide agencies providing services to our pantries that benefit our community.

We urge you to join us in this significant and greatly needed effort to inform and educate the Staten Island community on hunger and hunger-related issues.
