Transnational Project: Reunification of Migrant Families

Please join Comite Ñani Migrante for a seminar entitled “Transnational Families: Staten Island & San Jerónimo de Puebla.” The program will address the mutual needs of Port Richmond immigrants from San Jerónimo, and San Jerónimo residents who have relatives in Port Richmond. The panel will be led by Marco Antonio Castillo Martínez, a noted social anthropologist and rural community organizer in Mexico who has worked with several migrant communities in the Northeastern U.S. Also on the panel will be Port Richmond residents who emigrated from San Jerónimo, and residents of San Jerónimo.

Rabbi Avi Shafran

Rabbi Avi Shafran serves as the Director of Public Affairs for the Haredi National Organization Agudath Israel of America. He writes a weekly column for Hamodia, contributes regularly to Haaretz and Forward, and is the author of five books, including a collection of essays entitled "It's all in the Angle" (Judaica Press).

Ordained by the late Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchok Ruderman of the Ner Israel Rabbinical College in Baltimore and a student of the late Rabbi Yaakov Weinberg, Rabbi Shafran served as a high school teacher and principal for nearly 20 years before joining Agudath Israel in 1994.
