Screening: Film & Media Senior Showcase

May 4, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 10:30 pm
Foundation Hall Manzulli Board Room

Featuring works by Wagner College Film & Media Program senior film majors Lola Carriat, Lisa Condemi, Timothy Hayes, Anthony J. Hurtado, Kelly Joule, Elihu Ngbodi and Joseph Troina.

The evening will present the following short films, and a Q&A with the makers following the screening:

“½” by Lola Carriat — This experimental documentary is about the symptoms of twinship. It represents an uncanny phenomenon for scientists and psychiatrist, and experiments and words are not sophisticated and strong enough to analyze the experience. The movement of a dancer and visual metaphors express the inner feelings of being twin and struggling with a strong complicity, a lost identity, and a necessary break of the bond. It invites the spectator to a sensitive experience in the intimate space of twindom.

“Maria” by Lisa Condemi — A modern-day parable of abortion rights, Maria tells the story of a woman on her way to abort the next Jesus-child. Maria is a visual exploration into the fragmentation, colonization and exotification of the female body.

“Trigger” by Lisa Condemi — This is an experimental, animated documentary that delves into existence and memory after sexual assault, exploring the aural and visual stimuli that remain with survivors.

“Keep Moving Forward” by Tim Hayes — This piece is a personal documentary about the director’s journey through life as a student athlete while chasing his dream.

“Cords” by Anthony Hurtado — In college, there are sure to be a plethora of problems that will enter a student’s life. “Cords” is an analysis of these problems, how we encounter each problem, and the decisions students make to either flee from or fight those same, common college problems that will shape the trajectory of an entire college year.

“Taibi Dance: ‘Fade’ ” by Anthony Hurtado — Can you feel the “Fade”? Watch professional dancer Lauren Taibi’s choreographed dance routine to the song, “Fade,” by Kanye West, all performed on the roof of D Tower.

“Reminiscence” by Kelly Joule — A spirited young woman finds herself inside a blank room that begins to change alongside her. Whether for better or worse, they share this journey together.

“Down From Above” by Kelly Joule and Jane Paris — An experimental film that shows how, if you continue to look up at something high, you can lose sight of what is right in front of you.

“Blue Funk” by Elihu Ngbodi — A young man feels as if he is going through the motions every single day, trying to see the beauty in the world but still struggling. He is all alone and just wants it to end.

“Ezinulo” by Elihu Ngbodi — “Ezinulo” (“family,” in the Igbo language) tells the stories of Katie and Innoh Ngbodi, two parents who envisioned a better life for their family.

“The Rockin’ Wagon” by Joseph Troina — A recently single Matthew finds himself at a swing club called the Rockin’ Wagon. His best friend, Gregory, is trying to cheer him up with a night out and some ladies to talk to. Nothing seems to be working until Gregory makes him talk to Emily, who has caught his eye. Upon his approach, Emily asks him to dance, and that’s when the real fun begins!

“Beauty Police” by Lisa Condemi, Kelly Joule and Melanie Meilinger — “Beauty Police” is a micro-film that challenges the policing of femininity.

“I Put A Spell On You,” directed by Melanie Meilinger, camera and editing by Lisa Condemi and Anthony Hurtado — A music video for Vocal Synergys cover of “I Put A Spell On You,” featuring Michala Williams.
