Screening “Sois Belle et Tais-Toi” (Be Pretty and Shut Up)

April 4, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

One of the most iconic actors of the 20th century and an ardent feminist who worked almost exclusively with women directors late in her career, Delphine Seyrig also worked behind the camera.

In “Be Pretty and Shut Up,” Seyrig interviews many leading actors including Juliet Berto, Ellen Burstyn, Jane Fonda, Shirley MacLaine, Louise Fletcher, Maria Schneider, Barbara Steele, Viva, Anne Wiazemsky, and more about their experiences in the film industry, the dearth of roles, and the struggle for respect.

Seyrig’s film, made in 1981, resonates deeply with today’s #MeToo Movement and Time’s Up.

Prof. Patricia Moynagh (Government & Politics) and Prof. Holly Van Buren (Film Studies) will run a discussion after the film.
