National Day of Racial Healing
Tuesday, January 17th is the National Day of Racial Healing whose goal is “jettisoning the belief in a hierarchy of human value and engaging communities in transforming America’s racial narrative.” The National Day of Healing is spearheaded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and is a part of its Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation enterprise. The Kellogg Foundation is one of the largest philanthropic organizations in the U.S. committed to creating opportunities for vulnerable populations of children—particularly in impoverished areas.
At Wagner College, we too are committed to engaging communities in transforming America's racial narrative and will be screening the groundbreaking documentary 13th, in the Coffehouse located in the basement of Reynold's House. 13th is a 2016 documentary by director Ava DuVernay, which focuses on race in the criminal justice system and is titled after the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which outlawed slavery.
Pizza and drinks will be provided and a social justice dialogue on how we can use knowledge to increase racial healing will immediately follow the documentary.
