It’s recommended for all who want to have a sense of the tapestry of American Islam is shaped by the contributions of a variety of Muslims, including those from South Asia." Prof. Omid Safi, Director, Duke Islamic Studies Center, and author of "Memories of Muhammad: Why the Prophet Matters"
Presented by the History Department, Wagner College.
Why is Psychology So Hard to Do?
Join psychology professor Mark Wagner for this Faculty Forum presentation, “Why is Psychology So Hard to Do?” This talk will consider the philosophy of psychological science. It will briefly summarize the thought of Popper, Kuhn and Rorty along with critical observations about how their views apply to psychology. In response to postmodernism, this talk suggests a simple-minded alternative form of positivism growing out of Gibson and Piaget that is rooted in “concepts-that-work” which are tested against observables like behavior, neural action and conscious introspection. If time allows, we will discuss concept variability, the paradox of foundational concepts and some preliminary thoughts on operationalization.
