Please join Wagner College Hillel on Sunday, April 19 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. for their Third Annual Charity Powderpuff Football Game, to be played in the college stadium at 631 Howard Ave., Grymes Hill. Admission is $2, and there will be food, raffles, and T-shirts for sale. All proceeds benefit AUTISM SPEAKS, a research, advocacy and education organization.
Kimberlea Karper, Hillel president and co-coordinator of the fund-raiser, said, “We can all be a part of tackling autism. With numbers on the rise, we may be overwhelmed by the current rate of autism, but even doing something small can make a real difference to someone’s life. It only takes a small amount to make a huge difference, and money raised for Autism Speaks will help pay for the education, advocacy, and prevention of autism.”
At Autism Speaks, their goal is to change the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders. They are dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and cure for autism; to raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society; and to bringing hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder.
The Wagner Hillel Foundation is joining with the Wagner Promising Students Society, Up ’Til Dawn, the Student Government Association, and the Student Nurses Association to sponsor this year’s Charity Powderpuff Football Game.
The Powderpuff Football Game will pit the freshman girls against the sophomore girls and the junior girls against the senior girls in a flag football contest. The winners will then play each other to determine the overall winners.
At our first and second annual games, the various participating student groups were able to raise over $1,500 for autism organizations, and they hope to surpass that amount this year.
Admission for the game will be $2 at the Wagner Football Stadium front gate (631 Howard Ave., Grymes Hill). Children five years and under will be admitted free. Raffles will be held during the game for prizes.
