The Wagner College Chai Society and the Staten Island Jewish Community Center welcome Osnat Post for a lecture on “The Economic Development of Jerusalem: A Holy City in the Real World.” The lecture will be given on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. in Wagner College’s Spiro Hall, Room 4. The lecture is free, and the public is invited.
Osnat Post is an architect and urban planner. She was head of the Planning Department and acting city engineer of Jerusalem from 2003 to 2009, and was city engineer of Eilat from 1994 to 2000. Post was initiator of and partner to a wide variety of programs, including a master development plan for Jerusalem, the renovation of historic neighborhoods, the development of inner-city green zones, and the revision of plans for traffic and public transport. She has established guidelines for the preservation of historic buildings and sites in Jerusalem.
Post has forged fruitful collaborations with Israeli authorities and foreign institutions, including UNESCO and the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, regarding Jerusalem’s Old City. In her work, Post emphasizes the need for multidisciplinary planning forums that link culture, history, education, society, and planning principles for the people that live and work in the capital of Israel. The complex physical, cultural, and political landscape in Jerusalem poses fascinating challenges, first and foremost of which is how to plan and administer a city with very diverse populations. Post has striven to engage elected representatives of the different populations and have them participate in the planning and decision making process.
Presently, Osnat is exploring opportunities to develop mutual relationships between communities, organizations and institutions in the USA and in Israel to further advance initiatives that will benefit Jerusalem and its people. She acts as a consultant for ongoing development projects in the Old City and new neighborhoods of Jerusalem.
