President Richard Guarasci and his emergency management team met early this evening to discuss the possibility of relocating those students still in the school's residence halls as winds and rains from Hurricane Sandy escalate throughout the day on Monday, and which staff will be asked to report for work on Monday.
Wagner College will relocate those students still in its residence halls to the Spiro Sports Center gymnasium on Monday starting at 1 p.m. Students are reminded that they will be sleeping on the gym floor, so please bring blankets and pillows, along with required medications, reading material, etc. We expect the relocation will last until late afternoon Tuesday, but we will evaluate circumstances as they develop.
Any students who choose to leave the residence halls before the evacuation are asked to complete the Hurricane Sandy Plan registration form, which they will find at this link, as we have previously requested.
Food service will be moved to the gym when the relocation begins. Our dining services have much more than enough nonperishable food and water stocked to feed those who will populate the gym. Medical services will be available on site. Housekeeping will provide sanitation, and Public Safety will ensure the security of our students.
Wagner College offices will not be open on Monday, and only essential and emergency personnel are expected to report for work.
Classes have been cancelled for Monday and Tuesday. The college will evaluate circumstances on Tuesday before announcing plans for the remainder of this week.
Wagner College will continue to update the college community and parents throughout the storm via email, Web updates and postings on our Facebook page. Note that if campus loses power, and Wagner email and the college website go down, we will continue to provide on-the-scene updates on our Facebook page. We suggest that you "favorite" our Facebook page now to make it easier to find.
Our next update will come late Monday morning.
