On Monday, April 16, 2012, Wagner College hosted a panel discussion entitled “Muslim Americans of Staten Island: Leaders, Families, Neighbors” marking Staten Island’s celebration of the 9th Annual NYC Immigrant Heritage Week. Panelists were: moderator Ameena Ghaffar-Kucher, associate director of international education at the University of Pennsylvania and an expert on Muslim youth and education; Ahmed Kargbo, former Marine and former president of Staten Island's Sierra Leonean Association; Ismet Capric, owner of Taub's Floor Covering; Jawaid Syed, CEO and president of Syed Enterprises; Dr. Mervat Nassef, associate clinical professor at Columbia University; CSI student Islam Allan and Wagner College student Zara Lone of the Muslim Student Association.
