Shortly after World War II, as an influx of men enrolling on the GI Bill® swelled the ranks of Wagner College's student body, a debate arose: What should the name of our school mascot be?
Several choices were considered: Green Dragons, Pandas, Eagles.
But on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1947, the students settled on their choice: Wagner College's mascot would be the Sea Hawk.
So it seemed particularly appropriate when we recently discovered that a pair of hawks had built a nest in one of the tallest trees in the middle of our campus and hatched a clutch of eyases, or baby hawks. We were able to get some video with a long lens of the nest, along with another clip showing one of the adults on an exposed branch.
