Dominick Fontano, director of campus operations at Wagner College, and Tom Carrol, vice president for administration and finance, accepted the Lynne Robbins Steinman Foundation’s 2004 Beautiful Staten Island Award on behalf of the college at a ceremony on Oct. 28. The award recognizes and promotes efforts on Staten Island to beautify the borough through plantings. The awards were given out at Snug Harbor Cultural Center’s Veterans Memorial Hall by Aletta Kipp Diamond, president of the foundation and trustee of Wagner College. The awards are co-sponsored by the foundation and the Staten Island Advance.
Mrs. Alice Diamond, the wife of the late Staten Island Advance publisher Richard E. Diamond, began the Lynne Robbins Steinman Foundation in 1982 in memory of the community activist. The foundation donates thousands of plants and bulbs annually and funds educational programs, fairs and initiatives for beautification projects around the Island.
