Wagner College Theatre presents “Stupid F@%king Bird” by Aaron Posner, where Chekhov’s story of love, art and a hapless bird gets a remarkably contemporary face. The show runs from Tuesday, April 25 through Sunday, April 30 at WCT’s Stage One studio theater.
On the grounds of a country estate, a battle between young and old ensues in this heartbreaking, hilarious “sort-of adaptation” of Anton Chekhov’s “The Seagull.” Winner of the 2014 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding New Play, “Stupid F@%king Bird” is about our longing to love and be loved.
Directed by Mickey Tennenbaum, this irreverent play features a talented cast including Nina Gabriela Gross (Emma), Albert Nelthropp (Trig), Brianna Brice (Nina), Nick Manna (Sorn), April Lillard (Mash), Nicholas Barakos (Dev) and Daniel Marconi (Conrad).
The production is designed by Casey Schweiger (scenic design), Pamela Pangaro (lighting design), Addi Berry (costume design), Sarah Aguila (props master) and Stephen C. Kallas (sound design). Austin Genant is technical director. Jazmine Minner is production stage manager. Annie Fox and Emily Taylor are assistant stage managers. Hadly Patterson is assistant director.
The Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company premiered “Stupid F@%king Bird” in Washington, D.C. in May 2013. The Washington Post called the play “a funny, moving slugfest, a ripe mashup of mock and awe.”
“Stupid F@%king Bird” performances are Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., with matinees Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
