Prerequisites for Traditional and Second-Degree Programs

Prerequistes (Cognates) for a Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Nursing
(Traditional 4-Year and Second-Degree Programs)

  • Biology 209, 210 with Labs (2 units)
    • Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II
    • Fall and Spring, Freshman Year
  • Psychology 101 or Sociology 101 or Anthropology 101 (1 unit)
    • Introduction to Psychology or Introduction to Sociology or General Anthropology
  • Microbiology 200 with Lab (1 unit)
    • Intermediate Learning Community
    • Only Spring Sophomore Year
  • Nutrition (1 unit)
    • Intermediate Learning Community
    • Only Spring Sophomore Year

In addition to the above courses:
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater and a score of proficient or above on the entrance test (TEAS V). Scores must be submitted before May 5.


  • You must receive a grade of C+ or greater in prerequisite courses.
  • Nursing courses cannot be taken unless all prerequisites (cognates) are completed.
  • All prerequisites must be completed by the end of the Spring Semester in which you are applying.  Example:  Application deadline February 15, 2009 - Course work must be completed by June 1, 2009.
  • Students must be matriculated at Wagner College for one year (two semesters; not including summer) prior to beginning the Nursing Program.
