Letters of Evaluation

As part of the application process, you will need to have at least five letters of recommendation sent to the Pre–Professional Health Committee. These will be the basis on which the committee constructs the committee recommendation letter. A typical break–down of where to obtain the letters is:

  • Two from faculty members of the required courses
  • One from a non–required course faculty member
  • One from a research or extracurricular supervisor
  • One from a place of work
  • One from a peer (optional)

To make sure that you get the best possible recommendation letter, be selective as to who you request the letter from, and provide them with the following information:

  • A cover letter stating why you are requesting a letter of recommendation from them
  • A current resumé
  • A copy of your personal statement
  • A copy of the Evaluation Checklist
  • A copy of the Junior Year Questionnaire Professional exam scores (if available)
  • A copy of the guidelines for evaluators
  • The email addresses of the Pre-Professional Health Commitee members (preferred) or an envelope addressed to the Pre–Professional Health Committee

All requests for letters must be made by the end of your junior year. You should give each person who is writing a letter at least one month to complete it. It is crucial that the person completing the evaluation returns a completed evaluation checklist along with the letter of evaluation.
