Timely Warning Notification

The Vice President for Finance and Administration will be responsible for informing the President, Chief of Staff, Director of Communications, Media Services and the Vice Presidents when an emergency situation arises.  Where it is determined that the incident may pose an ongoing threat to members of the Campus community, campus wide notification (web page, college e-mail and text message) will be launched.  The decision to issue a campus wide notification is made on a case-by-case basis considering the validity of the information about the crime reported, facts surrounding the crime, the nature of the crime, continuing danger to the campus community, and risk of compromising law enforcement efforts.

Campus wide notifications are usually disseminated for the following: arson, criminal homicide, sex offenses, and robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and hate crimes.  Cases of aggravated assault and sex offenses are considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the facts of the case, and the information known to Public Safety.  For example, if an aggravated assault occurs between two students who have a disagreement, there may be no ongoing threat to other members of the campus community; therefore, a campus wide notification would not be disseminated.  Sexual assaults are considered  on a case-by-case basis, depending on the facts of the case, when and where the incident occurred, when it was reported, and the amount of information known by Public Safety.

In an effort to provide timely notice to the College community, and in the event of a serious incident which may pose a threat to members of the College community, an email from Public Safety is sent to all students, faculty and staff.

Updates to the College community about any particular case resulting in a Campus wide notification may be distributed via email, posted on the Wagner College website, or by text message to everyone registered for Emergency Text Messaging.

The college may not provide timely warnings about those crimes reported to a pastoral or professional counselor.
