The Wagner College Guild celebrated its 104th anniversary in 2022. The Guild is Wagner’s oldest organization and was formed by faculty wives to help provide support for the divinity students who were away from home pursuing their education. The Guild members provided transportation, sewed buttons, and invited students back to their homes for a home-cooked meal and a respite from their studies. Today, the Guild’s mission remains in many ways the same as it was over 100 years ago, with its members committed to assisting students in need. This includes The Lila T. Barbes ’40 Wagner College Guild Scholarship which is awarded to two students each year. As well as supporting the Make a Difference Fund, which provides immediate emergency financial assistance to students in need so that they may continue their education without interruption.

The Guild hosts four luncheons each academic year – in October, December, April and June – as well as special members only events. Our luncheons feature a guest speaker, a delicious meal and are designed to inform, entertain and encourage fellowship. All proceeds from the luncheons benefit the Make a Difference Fund. We welcome you to become a member and ensure that the Guild remains active and strong for the next 100 years. The 2022-2023 Annual Membership fee is $35 and is effective from September 1, 2022 – August 31, 2023. Barbes ’40, who was an invaluable member of the Wagner community for more than 70 years. Lila and her husband John “Bunny” ’39, who was Wagner’s onetime Alumni Director, ensured that the Guild remained active, vibrant, and focused on its mission to help students in need. Their dedication and commitment to Wagner College and the Guild motivate us to continue to do our good work.
