Please join us at the Wagner College Gallery for “On Thought and Process,” an exhibition of cut-paper and printed acetate installations by Gina Fuentes Walker, on display through Friday, Feb. 3.
A gallery reception will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 3 p.m.
Both the reception and the exhibition are free and open to the public.
The gallery is located in the Union Building on the Wagner College campus at 631 Howard Ave., Staten Island.
The Wagner College Gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours on Thursday until 9 p.m.
Gina Fuentes Walker is a visual artist, photographer and curator who lives and works in New York City. She applies scissors to paper and photo-printed transparencies, cutting and transforming them into abstract shapes and forms to create cut-outs and silhouettes. Her site-specific installations are works in progress that reference familial ties, loss and memory.
“The process of cutting abstract shapes and silhouettes is a meditation that pares away the excess to expose what is essential,” Fuentes Walker says.
Group and solo exhibitions of Fuentes Walker’s studio work include gallery and site-specific installations in New York, Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, Italy and Germany. She has been awarded fellowships and residencies from the Smithsonian Institution, Chashama and the Bronx Museum of the Arts. As co-founder and director of Art Harlem, a community-based nonprofit organization, Fuentes Walker produced an annual tour of open studios from 2005 through 2014 as well as year-round programming and exhibitions.
