Nelson Kim wrote and directed the award-winning feature film SOMEONE ELSE, which was hailed by LA Weekly as “a tense, unexpectedly moving psychological study of a man’s unraveling,” by VCinema as “a nimble and smartly designed independent production… a highly intriguing debut,” and by PopMatters as “a movie that ultimately forces you to think on your feet… certain to provoke discussion, and perhaps argument, amongst viewers.” Following a theatrical run in Los Angeles, the film was released on iTunes and Amazon in 2015. His latest short film, THE COMPLAINT, filmed entirely on Zoom during Covid lockdown, premiered online in 2021.
Before joining the faculty at Wagner, Nelson taught as an adjunct at Fordham, Columbia, Fashion Institute of Technology, and New York Film Academy.
In addition to his work as a filmmaker and educator, Nelson has published film criticism and film journalism for the websites Hammer To Nail, Senses of Cinema, and Filmmaker Magazine, among others.
Nelson is co-director (with Philip Cartelli) of the Film and Media program.
