On Saturday, April 2, Wagner College was one of the 22 colleges and universities that sent students to the 76th Annual Eastern Colleges Science Conference, held on the campus of Iona College, to present their empirical research.
Kendal Lascar (senior, biopsychology major, research adviser Sara Guariglia) — Kendal gave a poster presentation titled “GABAA Receptor Activation Reduces Social Behavior in Planarians,” coauthor Michael Pepe.
Sarah Lott (senior, microbiology and environmental studies double major, research adviser Katherine Moccia) — Sarah gave a poster presentation titled “Characterization of Novel Seed Endophytes in Medicago sativa.”
Ian T. Massaro (sophomore, microbiology major, research adviser Christopher Corbo) — Ian gave a platform presentation titled “Novel Mounting of Biological Tissue Samples for 3D Model Reconstruction Using Tandem Scanning Electron Microscopy and Photogrammetry Software,” coauthors Alice Mashensky, Ricardo L. Peguero, and Andras Bimbo-Szuhai.
Raven K. Pitt (senior, biology major, research adviser Donald Stearns) — Raven received an excellence award for Best Student Platform Presentation in Molecular Biology and Genetics for her senior thesis research, “A Comparison of the Effects of Nitrate Concentration on Population Growth Dynamics of the Duckweed Lemna minor Grown in Distilled and Spring Water.”
At the conference, Wagner College biology professor Don Stearns received a plaque from the ECSC Board of Directors in recognition of his 14 years of service as president and board chair of the Eastern Colleges Science Conference.
