DeltaMuDelta_letters

Delta Mu Delta is a symbol of a student’s readiness to measure up to the responsibilities of the future. It is recognized and even sought by employer representatives who visit campuses to recruit graduates for careers in business, education, industry and government.

Membership in Delta Mu Delta fulfills one of the requirements for entrance at the GS-7 level (rather than GS-5) in numerous professional and technical occupations in the federal service.

Delta Mu Delta Motto

The Greek letters in the Society’s name stand for Dia Mathessos Dynamis, signifying Delta Mu Delta’s motto: Through Knowledge, Power – the power to manage creatively for social and economic good.

Becoming a member of Delta Mu Delta is an honor indicative of earnest, intelligent purpose and rewarding achievement. This should be a goal of every person pursuing a degree in business administration where Delta Mu Delta membership is possible. The standards of Delta Mu Delta are high. Although many may not gain the Key, they should remember that the hard work done will bring its own rewards.

Delta Mu Delta History

Through Knowledge, Power — the power to manage creatively for social and economic good.

The Society was founded by five professors in the School of Commerce, Finance and Accounts at New York University in 1913. Delta Mu Delta was incorporated in 1952. In 1963 it was admitted to membership in the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), an organization of 67 member national honor societies whose objective is to maintain high standards for the recognition and promotion of academic excellence in higher education.

In 1992 the Society established an affiliation with the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Future establishment of Delta Mu Delta chapters will occur at colleges and universities with business programs accredited by ACSBP at the baccalaureate/graduate level.

Delta Mu Delta is classified by the Internal Revenue Service as a nonprofit, educational society under code 501 (c)(3), which means that all donations to the Society are tax exempt for the donor.

The Insignia

The Delta Mu Delta insignia is a gold key in the form of the Greek letter Delta, on which appears a full- rigged ship with sails set and colors flying. The ship symbolizes the activity of business. Below the ship are the Greek letters which stand for the words Dia Mathessos Dynamis. The key and engraved membership certificate are presented by the local chapter upon induction.
