Connections to the Community

In the spirit of the Wagner Plan, The Education Department actively cultivates community and school partnerships that provide teacher candidates with meaningful, challenging, and rewarding field placements.

Specifically, we proudly partner with PS13, Staten Island Academy, IS49, Port Richmond High School and Project Hospitality (Los Promotores collaboration) as well as a number of additional Staten Island schools in both our childhood and adolescent education programs.

Courses in all our programs link fieldwork to school and community partners, deepening educators’ understandings by building a bridge between theory and practice. Wagner students work with schools serving students with special needs, in classes with English Language Learners, in after-school tutoring, at our Early Childhood Center, and at Wagner-sponsored and school-initiated community projects. All programs include at least 100 hours of field experiences within our rich partner sites.
