Professor Emerita Susan Bernardo’s New Book: The Self and Community in Star Trek: Voyager

Wagner College English Professor Emerita Susan Bernardo has published a new book, The Self and Community in Star Trek: Voyager. The book examines the the unique dimensions of the popular television show to explore what it has to teach us about our humanity and our relation to others and the environment. In a sense, her book boldly takes us intellectually where we may not have dared to go before.

As Professor Bernardo is a true "Trekkie," this is not her first journey into the Star Trek universe. She also published a scholarly essay in the collection Time-Travel Television, edited by Sherry Ginn and Gillian I. Leitch in 2015.

Bernardo retired in 2021 after teaching at Wagner College for thirty years. Her service to the college took many forms, from director of the newly created writing program to English department chair. She is dearly missed by the Wagner community.
